More than 100 budding young musicians will be gathering Wednesday, Dec. 22, in Moncton's Capitol Theatre for a special Christmas concert to showcase what they've learned over the past months and year.
The youngsters aged six to 11 are part of the Sistema New Brunswick after school orchestra music program fostered by the New Brunswick Youth Orchestra directors and professional musicians to teach youngsters who might not otherwise have an opportunity to learn music and orchestra instruments.

More than 100 budding young musicians will be gathering Wednesday, Dec. 22, in Moncton's Capitol Theatre for a special Christmas concert to showcase what they've learned over the past months and year.
The youngsters aged six to 11 are part of the Sistema New Brunswick after school orchestra music program fostered by the New Brunswick Youth Orchestra directors and professional musicians to teach youngsters who might not otherwise have an opportunity to learn music and orchestra instruments.
The innovative course based on the successful Venezuelan program to teach Venezuelan children was launched in Moncton over a year ago and now has 105 youngsters enrolled who practice five days a week for three hours.
The concert is a way of demonstrating to parents and friends what they have learned, said NBYO president Ken MacLeod. The concert will include many of their teachers and NBYO faculty members also performing.
People will be pleasantly surprised and impressed with the quality of the music they are about to hear, said MacLeod. "We're tremendously proud of these kids," he said.
The course not only teaches the children music but teaches discipline, team work, commitment while helps their self-confidence and showcase their growing talent and skills.
The concert begins at 7 p.m., will last about an hour and is free, he said.
