Three NBYO alumni named to 2013 National Youth Orchestra of Canada

We are very pleased to congratulate NBYO alumni Peter Cho, Sarah de Niverville, and Sarah Harrigan. All three have been selected to train and tour with the 2013 National Youth Orchestra of Canada. These are proud days for Peter and both Sarahs, their families and friends, and for the entire NBYO family.

Peter Cho of Rothesay was a violist with NBYO from 2009 through the 2011-12, serving as principal in his last season with NBYO . He is currently completing grade 12 studies at Saint John High School. Peter plans to begin music studies at Memorial University in Newfoundland this September. He is an accomplished viola and piano performer, with RCM Grade 10 credentials in both instruments. He attended Domaine Forget in 2011 where he enjoyed master classes and private lessons with James Dunham, François Paradis, and Jocelyn Bastien. Peter performed with NBYO during the highly successful Musikfreunde Tour to Vienna in summer 2011.

Sarah de Niverville graduated from l’Université de Moncton in 2012. She spent several years as a violist with NBYO and also as principal violist with the Nova Scotia Youth Orchestra. Sarah enjoyed touring with NBYO in Italy (2005), China (2007), and Vienna in 2011 where the orchestra won the 2011 Summa Cum Laude International Youth Music Festival Competition. She continues to perform with the Jolina String Quartet and on call with Symphony New Brunswick. Sarah also serves as an occasional teaching artist with Sistema NB.

Sarah Harrigan began violin studies at the age of 6 in Edmundston, but she soon moved to Saint John where she studied with Ali Leonard. Sarah was active with Symphony New Brunswick, the District 8 string program, the Royal Academy of Music Canada and the NB Competitive Festival of music, where she was awarded the provincial title in 2010. She served as concertmaster of NBYO, and has studied at summer academies such as Domaine Forget, the Orford Academy and the Zukerman Young Artist Program. Sarah is now a first year music scholar at Dalhousie University. There she studies violin under Prof. Philippe Djokic, with whom she has been a student since she was fifteen.
